Business Magazin: More temporary blue collar jobs available during holiday season

raluca-penes-hr-coordinator-smartreeAccordin to Smartree, the holiday season brings an increase in the availability of temporary blue collar jobs. Blue collar workers represent 80 percent of the total of those who benefit by temporary work offers across the market. The Christmas, Easter holidays and the month of March are bringing an increase in the number of temporary work contracts on the blue collar segment, especially in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara, Brașov, Arad, Sibiu and Constanta, as well as the adjacent areas. Moreover, the Baragan area attracts workers in the agriculture sector. „Unskilled workers occupy 80 percent of the total of temporary work contracts, with the rest being offered to experts. As in the white collars category the demand is constant, in the case of blue collars the holiday season brings a fluctuation, with contracts being closed for periods of 1 to 6 months,” Raluca Penes, Smartree HR coordinator said. According to Penes, the sectors that post most vacancies for unskilled workers are logistics, agriculture and production. Regardon the salaries, on the blue collar segment, the net income starts at RON 1,200 and can go up to RON 1800 and this salary may be completed by meal tickets. On the other hand, according to some companies the salary of a qualified worker can go up to RON 4500. Still, the basis salaries continue to represent the main challenge of recruitment companies, as the amounts offered are close to the minimum guaranteed income, and employees rather prefer state aid, Smartree representatives argue. Moreover, they fear the lack of a constant income over a long period of time. Other reasons that hamper the recruitment process are the lack of qualified staff, especially in the industry sector, but also the existence of areas where the working age population is scarce. „However, the main advantage of temporary jobs is the possibility for those who are not established on the labour market –pupils, students, and so on – to earn an extra income. This type of contracts also favors the unemployed who are looking for a transition period,” Raluca Penes said. Also, Raluca said that there are few companies which are hiring on a determined period, comparing with the West Europe countries where temporary work is a common practice by companies.
