If high school graduates earn minimum salary at the beginning, the IT college graduates take the start with 3,000 lei net / month
The salary offers that young graduates receive when they decide to enter into employment varies by the level of education and the field they choose to work: if a high school graduate receives minimum wage of 777 lei net per month if he hires as data operator, a college graduate starts with a salary of at least 1,200 lei net per month.
"The recent graduate salaries vary from one area to another. Most favored, as it is known for several years, are IT / Engineering graduates whose salaries can start at 3,000 lei net per month. Also, the economics graduate salaries have a rather large variation due to opportunities to fit in several areas, namely administrative, economic etc.", explained Raluca Penes, HR Coordinator in HR services outsourcing company Smartree Romania.
Each year, 200,000 young people graduate high school with or without a high school diploma, while the univerisities deliver on the labor market about 100,000 graduates. In recent years, most companies have made massive hirings and youth were recruited in outsourcing centers (Business Process Outsourcing, shared service center, call center), automotive industry and information service industry.
"The salary of a fresh college graduate entering on the labor market on an entry level position starts at 1,700 lei gross per month (1,218 net lei – n.red.) and can reach the level of 3,200-3,300 lei gross (2,200-2,300 lei net – n.red.). An accountant in an entry level position earns about 2,500 lei per month if he has between 20 and 25 years, 3,500 lei per month if he has between 25 and 30 years and 4,000 lei per month if he has between 30 and 35 years old, this is the salary for the entry level position", said Oana Botolan Datki, South East Europe, managing partner Consulteam, company with activities in human resources field. She said that a software development engineer gains, in an entry level position, on average, 3,400 lei gross each month if he has between 20 and 25 years and, if he has between 25 and 30 years, earns about 5,000 lei gross per month.
"Sometimes, on entry level positions are hired also some of the young people who were previously enrolled in internship programs or management trainee and then, when employed, they receive higher salaries", said Oana Botolan Datki.
During the professional life, the employees with average education levels, i.e. those who have completed high school or post-secondary school, earn near to the average salary of 2,300 lei gross per month, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.
Thus, if an employee, high school graduate, earns about 77% of the average wage, a post-secondary school graduate in the labor market earns by 2% above the average salary. The highest paid employees are educated so that a college graduate gets on average a gross salary of over 3,770 lei per month, while employees with doctorates can get to win over 5,200 lei gross per month ie 2.3 times more than an employee paid with the average salary.
"The high school graduates are generally recruited for positions of whose profile does not require specializations in areas such as data operators, logistics, sales etc. and are offered salaries that may start even from the minimum wage", said Raluca Penes from Smartree.
