Starting January 13, the national minimum gross basic salary, excluding bonuses and other allowances, is set at 2,300 lei per month for a standard working schedule averaging 169.333 hours per month, which equates to 13.583 lei per hour. This adjustment to the minimum gross salary was established by Government Decision No. 4/2021, published in the Official Gazette, Part I, No. 40 on January 13, 2021. The increase in the minimum gross salary is approximately 3%, rising from 2,230 lei to 2,300 lei per month.
Exception for Employees with Higher Education
As an exception to the above provisions, starting from the date this decision takes effect, for employees in positions that require a higher education degree and have at least one year of work experience in the field of their higher education, the national minimum gross basic salary, excluding bonuses and other allowances, remains unchanged at 2,350 lei per month. This is based on a standard working schedule averaging 169.333 hours per month, which corresponds to 13.878 lei per hour.
Legal Implications
From the date this decision takes effect, all rights and obligations established by law will be determined based on the new minimum gross basic salary level of 2,300 lei.
The last increase in the minimum gross salary occurred a year ago, in January 2020, when the minimum gross salary was adjusted based on higher education qualifications and at least one year of work experience in the respective field.
